Be self-directed and proactive in providing support the CEO in all aspects of running the Saudi franchise and take on all necessary tasks as allocated by the CEO. Provide a key point of contact for any matters relating to the Saudi for stakeholders across the Group. Operate with a high degree of trust and confidentiality with the CEO and all members of the CMT and RMT as necessary.

The role holder is responsible for supporting the CEO in achieving his objectives which includes the development and execution of the strategic agenda and driving key initiatives whilst balancing strategy, financial performance, risk management, business conduct, governance and controls, people & talent and stakeholder management.

Strategy

  • Play a leading role in the development of an integrated strategic strategy for the Saudi franchise ensuring alignment with the Region as well as the Group agenda for Saudi Arabia
  • Support the CEO to help develop an agenda to drive its execution; coordinate and prepare strategic reviews and business plans on a regular basis.
  • Assist in the delivery of the management agenda – taking the lead to identify and drive initiatives designed to build the businesses, improve financial performance, balance sheet management, operating efficiency, risk, and people management.
  • Identify and address the top issues/opportunities for performance improvement in the cluster.
  • Undertake specific ad-hoc projects or initiatives at the request of the CEO with the aim to increase momentum and actively track performance/progress.
  • Lead and execute select business/functional projects and initiatives.
  • Act as a prime contact point and coordinator for initiatives under the CEO’s office.

Business

  • Work with the Saudi Country Management Team (“CMT”) to prepare presentations and reports to senior stakeholders and/or committees for the CEO Middle East.
  • Act as Committee Secretary for CMT Meeting including the preparation of packs, drafting minutes, and following up on the closure of action items.
  • Consolidation of submissions from countries/functions and preparation of packs for Regional Management Team (“RMT”) meetings, Key Markets Reviews (“KMR”), and any other risk or management meetings as required by the CEO.
  • Record minutes for ad hoc Crisis Management Meetings (“CrMG”) as required by the CEO.
  • Monitor business performance, including deliverables, budget, people, and cost management as guided by the CEO.
  • Provide daily update to the CEO on political and economic developments globally, and regionally.
  • Manage the scorecard process for the country.
  • Co-ordinate with the business heads, infrastructure heads and management team members for day-to-day issues as led by the CEO.
  • Follow up on matters on behalf of the CEO.
  • Prepare ad hoc country reports, presentations, briefings, speeches for the CEO.
  • Respond and follow up on communications addressed to the CEO as required, including client complaints.
  • Attend meetings with the CEO, take minutes, and track deliverables.

Processes

  • Assist in the annual revenue/cost budget and forecasting process; provide financial analysis as required.
  • Work with the Country CMT to maintain a rigorous cost and investment discipline.
  • Develop & maintain an effective MIS and reporting cycle to monitor business momentum and to pro-actively highlight potential issues; develop & maintain regular reports as required.

People & Talent

  • Support development and execution of people plans and HR priorities, ensuring these are aligned to the business/functional strategies, global people strategy and regional priorities.
  • Drive an environment of collaboration, within the CMT team to ensure issues are raised and blockages are resolved in a timely manner.

Risk Management

  • Responsible for the management of Conduct Plans and the delivery of the conduct risk agenda across the Country including risk identification, action planning, and subsequent validation of conduct risks.
  • Assist the CEO in pro-actively identifying and mitigating risks; work closely with the business heads to manage and improve the risk & compliance environment
  • Play a leading role in Audit Socialization and source evidence showing appropriate risk measures are in place
  • Assist in tracking relevant audit issues and appropriate management actions and ensure closure within a timely manner
  • Assist the CEO in crisis management, taking minutes of meetings, following up on action plans.

Governance

  • Track adherence of committee meetings to Group Governance Standards and Best Practices across Country.
  • Be responsible, as an invitee of the Saudi CMT, for maintaining a strong and appropriate control environment; assist the CEO and business heads to drive improvement of the governance environment.
  • Act to minimize operational loss and audit failures, ensure appropriate focus on issues and resolutions; ensure lessons learnt are addressed.
  • Ensure the appropriate governance for committee meetings is in place and highlight issues in a timely manner when appropriate.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
